This is an introductory course to structural analysis techniques which is basis of almost all commercial structural analysis programs

Description

Matrix stiffness method is basis of almost all commercial structural analysis programs. It is a specific case of the more general finite element method and was partly responsible for the development of the finite element method. An understanding of the underlying theory, limitations and means of application of the method is therefore essential so that the user of analysis software is not just opening the “black box”. Understating the basics presented herein should hopefully lead to more fruitful use of the available software.

Learning objectives

An understanding of the underlying theory, limitations and means of application of the method.  By the end of the course attendee will be able to develop their own structural analysis “software” based on the mathematical presentation taught in the lectures.

Target group

Structural engineers performing structural analysis using various analysis programs.

Duration

8 classes (4 weeks)

Prerequisite
